Afternoon, Rosebery, 2005
Oil on canvas
153 x 183 cm

I was commissioned by the Art For Public Buildings Scheme (Tasmanian Government) to do this work. Rosebery is a small mining town in Tasmania. This is the main street.

In this part of Tasmania it seems to rain all the time. Tasmania has a big Hydro electricity scheme. The clouds are seeded to create extra rain. I had to plan my visits to Rosebery carefully to avoid days of rain and be able to paint on location.

The skater was there, on the street, while I was working.
