Here is a small study for a much larger work, of my mentor and friend, John Button. John loved writing and typing letters. I was working in a way that I had observed Alex Katz work. (Alex was John's neighbour. I was a studio assistant to both these artists). Alex did a relatively quick sketch first, then he referred to that for his, much larger work.
