The New Mexico State Fair comes to Roswell each year, as Summer finishes. To prepare for this painting, I painted the study directly at the fair. People pushed in front of me to get a close look at the work in progress. It was one of my more demanding, on-site tasks.
This painting was originally a diptych. The left side of which, I discarded, in order to simplify the composition. I regret that decision in hindsight.
